The Impact Of The Internet
Here's a few interesting factoids that I ran across about the Internet and how it impacts us.
- Music Albums are having a tough time going gold or higher (music "stealing")
- 2nd week movie attendance is dropping (from pirating I guess)
- Jobs are being found online for online jobs
- Declining dollars dedicated to yellow page and newsprint advertising
- Consumers are more knowledgeable when it comes to health care related issues
- People are meeting people in new and unusual ways that were never possible before
- Entertainment is increasingly centered around the computer monitor.
What do you think. How has the Internet negatively or positively affected you?
Have a good weekend everyone. I am off to the woods to play.

Computers have had a profound effect on my life. In the late 70's I accidentally (I was an artist!) got involved with 'em and in '79 built my first computer. A year later I started my own industrial robotics company that went on for seven and a half years.
I have been addicted to computers since ;) They have provided a lot of pleasure and income for most of my life.
Yes Big Pappa. I dig your second last point when you stated People are meeting people in new and unusual ways that were never possible before
And thanks to Entrecard, here I am, meeting new Bloggers everyday. Aftr reading their awesome posts, I shall leave a comment or two whenever possible.
I know it will slow me down and advertising your card is still very cheap on my blog, but I'm grateful.
Thanks for your posts. I really love one of your posts, the one you post about what Seth Godin said. Thanks from me too.
Greetings and lotta loves from Malaysia.

Thanks for the Comments guys!
Great post...I could write an entire book commenting here...
...but one thing strikes me. My kids can write book reports in one hour now, whereas when I was a kid (I ain't that old either) I had to go to the library, copy pages from the encyclopedia, check out a book or two, etc.
Now, they go to WikiPdia or something like that and the site that as their source.
Crazy!
@allyn - No kidding. Kids now have unbelievable resources at their disposal.
I agree that computers and the internet has had a major impact on society as we once knew it to be, but I think these corporations and industries should learn to embrace it rather than denounce it.
For example, many tv stations are adapting by allowing people to watch their favorite tv series online via their official website because they know it is inevitable that people will download the seasons thus continue to decrease their overall tv "ratings". By allowing viewers to watch through their website, people are able to get a better quality stream (than can be found on most movie pirating sites) but also allow the broadcasters to run ads during the presentation.
The internet is open to everyone so if the people who are being negatively affected by it learn to use it, they will be a lot better off--for example, whoever is responsible for printing yellow pages can use that money instead on some kind of internet marketing campaign.
@xicom - Companies like the yellow pages are, and have been scrambling to figure out how to counter the loss of revenue. That is why they are putting large dollars into TV (a competing media) promoting the new online yellow pages.
The easier and quicker spread of knowledge. The internet has made it possible to do work , worldwide , much faster than possible before.
I deal in the automotive business , I can take a photo of a car and email to someone - right now. Makes buying and selling things much easier. Everyone likes pictures.
Youtube, Myspace , Google, Wikipedia... the list of resources goes on and on.
Your right Sean! The automotive sales business has been hugely impacted by the Internet. Consumers are way more savvy when they step foot on a lot - IF they step foot on a lot at all.
