Another Sometimes on Saturday Post
I know that isn't a headline that is click worthy but hey, it's Saturday. I have to tell everyone, I am extremely fortunate. My readers are the best and the comments they leave are both interesting and valuable. I don't think that some/most of the "A-List" bloggers can say that.
I do read most of the "A-List" blogs like Chow, Cow, Shoe, Rowse, and a few others, but I have to tell ya, I am starting to loose interest. Primarily because of the comments that are typically left. Understand that I like the posts, but seriously, have you taken a look at some of the comments. The "Nice post" and "Good job" type posts are really starting to get to me.
I was on Chow yesterday and was reading a post and there were 46 comments, 40 of which were complete rubbish and of no value. I actually left what I thought was a "contributing" comment and there were 3 people that responded to my comment in a manner that could also be seen as a contribution. Frankly I am getting more out of reading the "B-list" (if there is such a thing). Don't get me wrong I am not trying to put people in classes or rate the blogs I read. I am simply using other people's words that describe traffic I guess. OR maybe if you are a member of the "A" crowd it must mean that you are making a lot of money from your blog. By that definition I am definitely a "D-Lister."
Oh well. What's a fella to do. I guess the whole point of this post is that I am grateful that I don't have a bunch of link hungry trolls, leaving spammy comments.
And so, after reading this, there are a few of you that I would fully expect to respond in the manner described above. So go ahead and get it out of your system.
This may very well be the last post of 2007 so here's a reminder. Make sure you get entered in the contest. The deadline is the 4th at 4:00 PM CST. Have a Happy New Year Everyone!

Right back at ya!! The comments should be along the lines of what the post is about. I realize we all want traffic, but at the expense of the very people you want to read your blog? I am going to start writing about the blogs I run across and not so much the "A" list. I want to share the blogs that are just plain fun and interesting. What do you think? By the by, I DO like your posts and I am a subscribed reader. Thanks
Thanks for the comment Etta. I think that everyone should get the word out about the blogs they like. AND I am wondering who clicks on ads? In never do and I am not getting clicks on any of my ads. Oh well.
Nice post, good job ;)
Seriously, that kind of thing grates on me. I'm all about reading something that's entertaining or informative by a good blogger, not necessarily a famous one.
There's nothing better than the type of blog with its own little community of readers who leave comments and respond to other people's comments. I mean people who actually have something to say and aren't afraid to discuss the topic further instead of resorting to "good job."
I admit I didn't even realize there WERE 'A' list bloggers until I staggered out of my little niche and read John Chow's income report for some month or other on his blog. It was a little intimidating, actually, it was hugely intimidating. I was hoping to make a little money with my blog, but that income report, and really the design of his blog with all the flashing and blinking (I get motion sickness so stuff like that gets to me pretty fast) made me rethink what I was really looking for by exposing my life with all it's roses and it's warts to everyone who wanted to read. I still have ads up, but I've made about $1.50 off them. Ah well.
I had a point here but I misplaced it Pappa. Bombay Sapphire all the way baby! I'm entered in the contest and it's exciting to have it coming up.
I think I'm unsuited to read 'A' list bloggers, mostly because they all seem to have the same subjects and ideas and frankly, some of them sound like sociopaths. Plus the most important thing to me about my blog is not how much money I make, or how I can make more. Although it is nice to have more readers!
Karen, that comment is what i call a contribution. LOL.
Bombay it is.
@Clair - Thanks for the comment, I couldn't agree more.
Interesting you made that observation about the people who leave spammy comments...I've been reading a lot of posts lately and I could have sworn I was running into a lot of those "nice post" type comments. Hmmm...I guess they have their plusses and minuses..on the up side, it's a comment that gets added to the pool of random thoughts...then on the down side, do you really want those types of folks trying to ball hog as the case may be?
I completely agree with you and wonder why they waste their time commenting in the first place. Those people commenting on the "A" list blogs are just star-struck wannabees.
Well Big Pappa if you are D list then that must put me in E or maybe even F list. LOL.
There are many blogs I check out not because the person writing has the best articles, but because the comments create a wonderful discourse. I think good comments add to the conversation, provide additional thoughts on a subject or even challenges the writer to rethink his/her original article.
Happy New Year!
Thanks for the comments guys! Everyone have a great new year!
I was all giggly and stoked to leave a "Good Job" but you called me out and now it's just not the same.
I check the A-Listers now and then but I also read about Lindsay Lohan's antics in the paper now and then. The term "blogger" doesn't really describe the whole spectrum anymore.
I hope to be a C+ blogger one day.
a post you commented on at Blogaboutyourblog.com just got dugg.
I was wondering if you received a lot of traffic from it. Please stop by and let me know
Hey Big Pappa,
eh...who needs Chow...I didn't even know he exsisted until recently. So what he makes more money than most, I find other bloggers that I've come across have more personality and more to say.
I dropped a card on him as an experiment. He hasn't dropped one back...I guess others are luckier...ha
Due to blogging communities and now Entrecard, I've had the pleasure to meet and interact with some great people with great blogs who offer friendship, support and leave comments that actually express their opinion on the subject I post about. That is what inspires me.
If I make a buck or two, okay..but I'm not looking to make a living from my blogs.
Sometimes Less equals more...
Nice job...haha...couldn't resist.
@AC - Glad you are here. I used to drop cards on him and actually he bought an ad from me once. Probably just to see how much traffic I would send him. Day Job Nuker had a great article about what new bloggers do and one of those things was to link to all of the A listers. His question was why are you doing this. They don't need your links. They aren't going to reward you for linking to them.
Nice job everyone, good comments.
