Blogger May Have Finally Done It
The final nail in the coffin may have been driven. It looks like I am being forced to switch over to WordPress.
Blogger just got rid of the URL field for people when they are making comments. Since this blog is all about the readers, I want to make sure that comments are rewarded by giving them a link to their site. Without that, what's the point. Bloggers big solution was OpenID. I don't want commenters on the blog to have to sign up for anything. This is why it looks I have to switch over to WordPress.
The thing that stinks about it is the fact that I will loose all of my unique URL's, comments and all of the existing links that I have our there will be junk. Soooo what's a guy to do. Wait a minute, maybe I just keep all of the existing post up since I am hosting the site my self on a sub-domain and just start from scratch with the new URL. The stats will suffer for a while but it may work. I may even be able to modify the template to reflect the new address at the bottom of each post. But then I would have to change the URL in all of my social media sites. Yikes.
Can some of you WordPress pros chime in and "help a brother out?" I will need to find a way to transition over to wordpress with the least amount of collateral damage. Comments? (Sans URL of course.)
Thanks

Before you switch to WordPress, check out Serendipity (S9Y.org). I use it for my blogs and I like it much better than Wordpress. I have yet to find something Wordpress can do that Serendipity can't do easier.
BigPap, I am no Wordpress pro, but I am someone who is in the process of converting from blogger.
You've been on my blogger site (linked here in my blogger ID) but I have been working on my new wordpress site, located at lifeandlawns.com
I have found that worpress is really much better and easy to learn. I bought a book, Wordpress for DUmmies at Borders and that has helped a lot.
There is also a feature to migrate your stuff from blogger to the new site, but I have not gotten that far.
I feel your pain!...but you will really like the freedom and creativity gained from wordpress.
I also nabbed a free template from a site (send me email and I will tell you where I got it) and then I changed the look to what I wanted.
It ain't done yet, but gettin' close.

@allyn - I have the domain set up and ready to go. How are you getting all of your posts over. I made the permalink URL's to match what I have in blogger.
The wort part of it is, I am no longer getting any email notifications that there are pending comments. Those stopped yesterday.
Will do Tyler! I will go and see what that is all about.
Thanks for the heads up!
Wow, switching, huh? I've kept a Blogger account for a while for all of the Blogger users who only allowed signed in users previously.
No big deal for me - there's nothing on my Blogger account except a link to my real site.
Hopefully you won't be the only one brave enough to switch and somebody will perhaps get the message - blogging is about community, not just the Blogger community!
Gorilla, Yeah this is the most frustrating thing. It just doesn't make any sense at all. I guess this is a feeble attempt to continue the "pass no page rank" movement. You are exactly right it is about the community and for me it is about the readers. If I didn't care about the reciprocal communication, I would keep it.

But you already know this. :-)
