Another Monster Buck From Iowa - Plus A Bonus!

Here is yet another amazing deer taken in Iowa. This time, the bow hunter, Jim Willmsen from Cedar Rapids Iowa, got way more than he bargained for - 2 bucks locked up!

This isn't completely uncommon but actually getting a chance to take one while hunting, that is a different story. Normally you simply find them dead in the woods. This is not confirmed but I heard that Cabelas offered this guy over $100,000 for the original rack plus they would make him a reproduction.

Take a look at the video. It is quite extraordinary!

Deer Hunting In Iowa.

For those of you who are anti-hunting you might want to look away right now.

Most people are aware that white tailed deer hunting is now open across the Midwest. From Minnesota and Wisconsin to Missouri and Kansas, hunters are putting on their blaze orange and hitting the woods. Here in Iowa, the DNR has issues extra licenses in numerous counties to try and thin the deer population and lockers across the state are participating in the HUSH program where the meat goes to feed the hungry. "Nearly 6,500 deer were donated by hunters to HUSH last year, generating more than 1 million meals to Iowa's less fortunate. It is expected that more than 7,000 will be donated in the 2007-08 season."

The pictures below are of a monster buck that was taken by a friend of a friend with a muzzleloader here in Iowa. Ladies and gents, this is one big deer!

The Big Pig!

If you haven't see it, check it out here. This HUGE feral hog was shot by, 11 year old, Jamison Stone. The pig weighed in at an amazing 1,051 pounds. To put that in perspective, just imagine the hams being the size of a car tire. Here are a couple of more sites that are featuring the story.

One of the things in this article that I don't agree with was how the pig was taken. It was hunted on a fenced in game farm. For some reason it just kind of takes away from the accomplishment. To each his own I guess.
